Children of DCC

These are the children of Dickson Children Centre

Below you will find information about the children at DCC. For privacy reasons more information about a child and his or her background is only given to sponsors of that child. Information about sponsoring a child is found on the homepage under the “support us” link.

Many of the children at DCC have become orphan because their parents died of AIDS. Some children where taken in by grandparents, who then died or decided that they didn’t want to take care of them after all. Some of them ended up on the streets or were severely neglected. Various children have mothers who live on the streets, and are unable to take care of their children. Others have ended up on the streets due to bad situations at home. They have experienced a lot on the streets. Some of the children were abused by (step) parents. Others have just been left behind and the whereabouts of their parents is unknown. Many of these children have not only physical, but emotional scars, as well.

Erick was born in January 2009. His parents live on the streets and are unable to take care of him. His twin sister Brenda, sadly enough, died in March 2009 due to the this situation. Erick is underdeveloped and is very small for his age. At DCC he will get the care needed to grow up in a more healthy environment.

Joram was born in 2004. His parents are in prison and the Mombasa Child Department asked if DCC could take care of him during this period.

Joram was greeted with great enthusiasm by the other boys at DCC. He fits into their age group perfectly and has been treated as one of them. He goes to DCC’s nursery. He is very behind in his school education, compared with the other children who can already write. Joram is very shy and apprehensive, but judging by his reactions you can tell that he is starting to feel at home.

Neema was born in 1993. Her sister Sauda is also at DCC. Neema and Sauda are both orphans, their father died years ago and their mother died early 2005 due to AIDS. Neema has adapted well and is very helpful.
Sauda is Neema’s younger sister. Sauda was born in 1998. She is a smart, little girl with a happy disposition and she has many friends at the home.
Emmanuel was born in 1995. Both his parents are dead. He is still very sad about this. Emmanuel is cheerful, active and on the whole a happy boy.
Judy was born in Tanzania in 1995. She is a quiet, happy girl and loves to help with house chores. One of her feet misses toes, but she has no problem with walking.
